a bit of transparency

In case anyone suspects I’m not telling the whole story about studying abroad… you know, where’s the dark side of college reveling? Or in case anyone is tired of hearing me preach philosophy, then allow me to provide you with a bit of transparency:

It is Friday night. In the 5 preceding hours, I have consumed a cup of tea, followed by a cup of coffee, followed by a glass of wine (actually, it was the same cup which involved the previous liquids), followed, most naturally, by a trip to the bathroom. I mean “loo.” Upon exiting the hotel, I encountered a group of girls. I’m not sure what they were thinking when they made their wardrobe choices for tonight, but if it was something along the lines of “I hope this will make a boy think about my body,” then it worked. I thought, you must be very cold. Then I put in my earphones and trudged past them. I walked to the university quad and heard “Walk This Way” by Aerosmith blaring from open windows. Upon inspection, the building was the “Department of African and Oriental Studies.” London is a very diverse city. I stood and watched tipsy Asians sing and dance. The next song began, “Take those old records off the shelf…” I smiled and felt happy. Deciding that I wouldn’t likely encounter anything more entertaining or happy, I turned around and walked back to the hotel and ate digestives.

Goodnight all, and happy reveling.
